Chocolate Spiders are clusters of crispy noodles coated in chocolate. The noodles stick out in different directions, giving each cluster a loose, spidery shape. Our Choc'd Full Chocolate Spiders also include peanut butter, bringing a salty-sweet flavour to the crunch.
If you've only encountered noodles in savoury dishes, the combination might sound surprising. The crispy texture is what makes it work. Think of the noodles as the crunchy part of the treat, with chocolate around them and plenty of little edges to snap off.
Why are noodles in a chocolate treat?
Ready-to-eat crispy noodles bring a firm crunch and an uneven shape. Once they're coated and clustered together, those separate strands make a bite that feels quite different from a solid chocolate block.
The combination appears in Chang's own Chocolate Spiders recipe, which pairs fried noodles with chocolate. Its recipe is one example of the treat; different versions can include different additions.
At Choc'd Full, peanut butter is part of the recipe. It sits alongside the milk chocolate and crispy noodles, giving our Spiders their characteristic flavour.
What do Chocolate Spiders taste like?
Our version starts with creamy milk chocolate. Then you get the crispy noodles and peanut butter, which bring their own flavour and texture into each bite.
The noodles make the shape irregular, so eating a Spider is a little less predictable than breaking a square off a block. You might start with a thin, chocolate-coated edge and finish with a thicker cluster in the middle.
That's a big part of the pleasure. You don't need a perfectly smooth finish when the crunch is this much fun.
How are Spiders different from Crackles and Rocky Road?
If you're looking at our range for the first time, here's an easy way to compare the three.
Chocolate Spiders: Crispy noodles with milk chocolate and peanut butter. Choose these when a noodle crunch and peanut flavour sound good.
Chocolate Crackles: Chocolate, puffed rice and coconut. The smaller rice pieces give you a lighter, finer crunch.
Rocky Road: Chocolate with marshmallows and mixed additions. The appeal is the combination of soft, chewy and crunchy textures in one piece.
Each has its own character. It's less about finding the best one and more about deciding which sort of bite you're craving today.
What should you know about ingredients?
Our Chocolate Spiders contain peanut butter and are listed as containing peanuts, milk, soy and gluten. Read the current ingredient and allergen statement on the product page and pack before ordering for a dietary requirement.
A recipe you've seen elsewhere might use different noodles or a different chocolate. That doesn't tell you whether our finished product is suitable for a particular diet. If you need more detail, ask us before ordering.
Trying Chocolate Spiders for the first time
We make our Spiders by hand in small batches in Australia and pack them in 100g bags. Keep them in a cool, dry place, away from heat and direct sunlight, and follow the pack's best-before date and storage instructions.
You can choose a bag on its own or try Spiders with Crackles in the Classic Nostalgia Pack. The bundle is a useful starting point if you want to compare those two very different kinds of crunch.
For anyone who remembers them from a party table, Spiders need very little introduction. For everyone else, there's a pleasant discovery waiting: chocolate and crispy noodles belong together after all.
